Start mowing once the grass begins to grow steadily, with the blades set high for the first few cuts. Taking off too much at once can weaken the grass.
Rake out moss and dead material, and clear away leaves and debris left over from winter so light and air can reach the soil.
Spring is also a good time to tidy border edges and get on top of weeds before they spread.
